ManAfterGod'sHeart
i am talking about none other than King David.. the one God deemed as he who chases after His own heart.. we applaude david and his life, afterall, he IS the man after God's heart, how awesome is that! he must have been some kind of saint that david..
wrong.
let's review david's life shall we?
he, the king didn't go to war when he was supposed to, instead he stayed home and decided to go peer at some hot naked woman bathing.
he then committed adultery with her.
oh yeah, he killed the woman's husband to hide his sin.
let's not forget what a horrible father he was.. when his son Amnon raped his daughter Tamar, david sent amnon to exile.. wait no, david punished amnon for his great sin! nah, that wasn't it... david.did.nothing.
his family was in shambles, sons were killing sons, brothers murdering brothers..
PLUS, out of so many hymns and psalms he wrote, how many were complaints and grumbles? what a whiner!!
was david perfect? FAR FROM THAT
his sins were greater than any i have ever committed, i don't know about you..
then why on earth is he the man after God's heart?!
what we do know about david is.. everytime he committed a sin, he felt remorse. immediately, he would repent. once he knew he had hurt God, he was filled with anguish and grief. he confessed and changed..
did david ever commit adultery again? did he murder again? nope..
have YOU confessed a sin and went back to it after a few weeks or perhaps days of abstinence?
you're not alone..
sure, david whined about his life a lot.. he asks God why allow this to happen, why allow armies to invade yada yada.. HOW DARE HE DOUBT GOD this guy thinks he's all that.. i mean surely the man after God's own heart knows that God allows things to happen for a reason..
but yet, take a look at every psalm written by david.. he never fails to end with.. but still, praise be to God! you reign my mighty deliverer.. still i choose to rejoice!
did the bible ever say we can't present our most honest and open feelings to God? it doesn't in mine..
examine david's heart for a moment.. for in adversaries and hardships, he may be angered, frustrated.. but he chooses to praise God..
to put the cherry on top of all that.. when david appointed solomon as king at his deathbed, one of his instructions to solomon was to build a temple for God..
that's david's heart.. always looking to please God..
for even at his deathbed, he thinks of honoring God...
now that is putting God first in his life...
now THAT. is a man after God's own heart.
for God does not look at what you have done, he looks at what's inside..

" The main art in the matter of spiritual living is to know how to handle yourself. You have to take yourself in hand, you have to address yourself, preach to yourself, question yourself. . . . You must turn on yourself, upbraid yourself, condemn yourself, exhort yourself, and say to yourself: "Hope thou in God" - instead of muttering in this depressed, unhappy way, and then you must go on to remind yourself of God, Who God is, and . . . what God has done, and what God has pledged Himself to do. Then having done that, end on this great note: defy yourself, and defy other people, and defy the devil and the whole world, and say with this man: "I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance, who is also the health of my countenance and my God"
one of my fave quotes... "I SHALL YET... PRAISE HIM" :D
